Law alumni to gather during Public Interest Environmental Law Conference
UO Environmental law alumni will gather in the Lewis Lounge on Saturday,
March 4 at 5:00 P.M. during the 24th annual Public Interest
Environmental Law Conference at the law school. All law alumni and
faculty are invited to attend the reception.
Several thousand attorneys and activists from more than 40
countries are meeting at the University of Oregon School of Law March 2
- 5 for what has become the worlds largest public environmental law
conference.
Founded in 1982 and still organized by Land Air Water, the first
student environmental law society, the event features four days of
panels and a number of keynotes on the theme Towards a Global Public
Trust.
Law professor Adell Amos, who directs the UO Environmental and Natural
Resources Law Center, said, The students of Law Air Water have done a
fantastic job of organizing a great conference with over 100 panels
that cover a full range of domestic and international environmental
issues including, just to name a few, reauthorization of the Endangered
Species Act, environmental law in Indian Country, the development of
environmental rights in national constitutions around the globe, the
impact of Hurricane Katrina, the Clean Water Act cases that were argued
before the Supreme Court earlier this week, and Resource Conservation
and Recovery Act citizen enforcement and global warming.
Longtime Sierra Club leader Mike McCloskey 61 will receive the
PIELC David Brower award at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday in the Erb Memorial
Union ballroom on campus.
