4:30 p.m.
The
University of Oregon School of Law's Environmental and Natural
Resources Law Program, along with the University of Oregon's
Environmental Studies Program, kicks off its "Earth on Fire: A Series
of Fireside Conversations On Global Warming" 2007-2008 series with a
talk by Professor Mary Wood, who will be speaking on "Courts As
Guardians of the Global Trust." Professor Wood is nationally known for
her scholarship on the federal trust obligation towards native nations
and her work on treaty fishing rights and endangered species. She is a
frequent speaker on issues relating to protection of native resources
and has helped government agencies formulate policies to carry out
their trust obligations. She is a co-author of a forthcoming textbook
in natural resources law and is engaged in other scholarship exploring
the use of private property mechanisms such as conservation easements
to achieve landscape protection. The event will take place Wednesday,
August 29, at 4:30 p.m., at the Many Nations Longhouse adjacent to the
School of Law. It is free and open to all members of the University
community.
