Professors Jon Palfreman and Carol Ann Bassett to Speak at ENR Fireside Conversation
Series Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 4:30 p.m.
The University of Oregons School of Laws Environmental and Natural Resources
Law Program, along with
the University of Oregons Environmental Studies Program, continues its Earth
on Fire: A Series of Fireside Conversations On Global Warming 2007-2008 series
with a talk by School of Journalism and Communication Professors Jon Palfreman
and Carol Ann Bassett, who will be speaking on Cool Reporting About a Warming
Planet.
Professor Palfreman is an Emmy, Dupont, and Peabody award-winning journalist. His published work includes more than 40 hours of primetime public television
documentaries and two books. His recent work includes in-depth investigative reports on global climate change,
the alleged health effects of power lines and genetically modified food.
Professor Bassett, program director for Environmental Writing in the Galapagos,
an ongoing summer course taught in the archipelago, has written for numerous national
publications, including The New York Times, The Nation, Mother Jones and Condé
Nast Traveler. She has traveled extensively to lecture and conduct journalism workshops in
developing countries such as Nepal, Bolivia and Botswana, and has written about
the environment and indigenous cultures on four continents. She was editor of the Tucson Weekly, an award-winning alternative newspaper,
worked as a full-time freelance writer for more than 16 years and was an independent
producer for National Public Radio and Monitor Radio.
The event will take place Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 4:30 p.m., at the Many Nations
Longhouse adjacent to the School of Law. It is free and open to all members of the University community.
