Oregon Child Advocacy Project Hosts Round-Robin with Local Attorneys February 21

Careers Helping Kids, a round-robin event with local attorneys practicing child advocacy and family law, will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Wayne Morse Commons at the Knight Law Center, 1515 Agate St., in Eugene. 

Oregon Law students will learn more about the various types of practice and how to pursue a family law career at the event.  Participating attorneys include:

• Hon. Charles Zennache, Lane County Circuit Court Judge
• Angela Sherbo and Brian Baker, staff attorneys for the Juvenile Rights Project
• Kamala Shugar, an attorney with Oregon’s Department of Human Services who advises on child welfare and termination of parental rights cases
• Mary Wagner, immediate past president of the Oregon State Bar’s Family Law section
• Jacy Arnold, Arnold Law Offices, LLC, who combines her family law practice with representing parents and children in juvenile court
• Leslie Abraham, executive director and senior attorney of Child Centered Solutions, a Portland nonprofit that provides attorneys for children involved in domestic relations cases.

The event is sponsored by Oregon Law’s Oregon Child Advocacy Project, which pursues systemic legal change to protect children’s interests and their relationships with nurturing adults. Faculty and students associated with the project work on legislative proposals and provide research assistance and consultation to attorneys in cases that advance the mission of the Project.  Additionally, they sponsor conferences and other educational activities.
