Oregon Law students Laura Williamson, Jia Min Cheng, Michelle Platt and Amanda
Fernandez will compete at the American Bar Associations Representation in Mediation
Competition for Law Students regional competition at the University of Californias
Hastings College of the Law on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2. The students out-performed 20 competitors at Oregon Laws Alternative Dispute
Resolution Advocates annual mediation advocacy competition on Saturday, Feb.
9, to advance in the competition.
During the competition, students role-play as advocates and clients in a mediation
setting. Students are judged on preparation, teamwork, how well the interests of the
client are represented, using opportunities in the mediation process, and other
elements of effective advocacy in mediation. Regional competition winners are invited to compete at the National Finals in
Seattle, Wash., held the first week of April in conjunction with the American
Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolutions Annual Meeting.
