Middle Eastern Law Student Association
|
The Middle Eastern Law Student Association ("MELSA") was created to promote a better understanding of the cultures, politics, and legal institutions of the Middle East, and to encourage students connected with the region to meet and exchange views. MELSA's activities include political discussion groups and lectures, dinners and parties, films, and other cultural activities. Membership is not limited only to those of Middle Eastern descent; the group is open to anyone interested in furthering their understanding of pertinent issues in the region and expanding their worldview. Through an open-forum format, MELSA works to educate the Oregon Law community around the social, political, racial, religious, and economic issues fundamental to the role of the Middle East in the international community. MELSA will also work to strengthen connections with Middle Eastern legal professionals in order to build a foundation for career development and opportunities in the international legal community. The group will accomplish this goal by facilitating networking opportunities with relevant legal scholars, law students at other schools, and professionals in the surrounding community. |
